BOE meeting recognizes school leaders; Ilion declares Oct. 25 “Jeremy Rich Day”

The Oct. 24 Central Valley Board of Education meeting was filled with recognition. The board recognized the building principals and assistant principals for National Principals Month; Superintendent recognized the board for New York State School Board Appreciation Week; and the Village of Ilion declared Oct. 25 as “Jeremy Rich Day” in Ilion. Mr. Rich’s honor follows the Oct. 13 recognition of his selection last March as New York State Elementary Principal of the Year.

Mayor Terry Leonard and Deputy Mayor Joanne Moore jointly read the following proclamation:

Whereas, the Village of Ilion would like to honor and recognize the distinguished leadership of Barringer Road Elementary School Principal Mr. Jeremy M. Rich; who has dedicated over twenty years of service to the children and students of former Ilion Central Schools and now Central Valley Central School District;

Whereas, the Village of Ilion, in collaboration with the Central Valley Central School District Board of Education, would like to designate “Jeremy Rich Day” and resolutions thereof;

Whereas, to show gratitude to Jeremy M. Rich, whom has been entrusted with the education and development of young people, our most valuable resource for the future; and has succeeded in providing high-quality learning opportunities for students in the Village of Ilion and Central Valley Central School District;

Whereas, the dedication and loyalty to his community is recognized by his greater involvement in youth sports and various activities throughout the community;

Whereas, the model of success is to be recognized and commended as a recipient of both the “2017 New York State Elementary Principal of the Year” and “2017 National Distinguished Principal Award”;

Whereas, to honor and recognize the contributions made by Jeremy M. Rich, principal of Barringer Road Elementary School, to the success of students in the Village of Ilion and Central Valley Central School District; and to show appreciation for being compassionate and invested in the development of our youth’s social, emotional, physical, and academic needs;

Whereas, to encourage residents of Ilion to observe “Jeremy Rich Day” with appropriate ceremonies and activities that promote awareness of his role as a school leader and in ensuring that every child has access to a high-quality education.
Now Therefore be it Resolved, the Village of Ilion along with the Central Valley Central School District Board of Education hereby designates the 25th day of October to be “Jeremy Rich Day”.

In Witness Whereof, I have set my hand and caused the seal of the Village of Ilion to be affixed this 24th day of October, 2017.

A celebration of school leaders

Board members and Mr. Rich were not the only honorees. BOE president Kelly Rowland shared a Powerpoint presentation, highlighting the education and careers of Fisher principal Michele Pilla, Jarvis principal Melissa Hoskey, Jarvis assistant principal Aaron Carey, and CVA principal Rich Keeler. Afterward, board members and the public took a moment to enjoy cake and punch, honoring the school board and school building administrators.
