Meet staff member Cynthia Young

Photo of Cynthia YoungHi! My name is Cynthia Young. I am a teacher assistant at Harry M. Fisher Elementary School.

How long have you been teaching or working in the district?

I started as a substitute teacher in the 2015-2016 school year and was hired as a Teacher Assistant this September.

What do you like best about what you do?

I absolutely love working with the kids. I look forward to seeing their faces everyday.

What event here at Central Valley CSD has made/makes a difference to you personally and in your career?

I think it’s the children and the staff in Fisher that have made the difference in where I decided I wanted to spend my days.

Where are you involved outside of school and what do you like best about it?

I’m not involved in anything outside of school at this time. I have four boys that keep me busy.

What former jobs have you held?

I have worked as an assistant to an OT at the Herkimer ARC, I also worked in the classrooms and homes of developmentally disabled adults and I owned a Daycare Center for nine years.

Where were you educated?

I went to Mount Markham Central School and graduated in 1986 and went to Tompkins Cortland College and received a degree in Social Sciences.

Where have you lived?

I have lived outside of Mohawk for 24 years where I live with my husband and children.

If you could do anything on a weekend, what would you do?

Camp and kayak.

What book and/or author are you currently reading?

Legacy of Passion by Catherine Kay. I love romance novels.

If we were to listen to your iPod or sound system, what would be playing?

The Eagles, classic rock and anything you can dance to.

What is your favorite television show/movie/actor?

Criminal Minds and Grey’s Anatomy for TV and The 13th Warrior for movies.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Norway, Sweden and Ireland to investigate my ancestors.

What one thing would you share that people might not know about you?

I decorate cakes.
