Meet staff member Cassie Latella

Cassie Latella standing in front of smartboard teachingHi! My name is Cassie Latella. I teach Kindergarten at Fisher Elementary and it is my first year with the district.

What do you like best about what you do?

I love bringing fun, creative, hands on learning experiences to the classroom. It is the best feeling in the world when I can get the children excited about the information they are learning and even more rewarding when the parents tell me that their child enjoys the classroom atmosphere and can’t wait to come to school!

What former jobs have you held?

I have worked as a lifeguard, waitress, bartender and gas attendant. After college I was hired to work for Mohawk Valley Community Action Agency Head Start. I spent five years as a preschool teacher and then took on a position as a Supervisor for the program for 10 years.

Where were you educated?

I started at SUNY Cobleskill for Early Childhood Education and knew that education was the direction I definitely wanted to pursue so I continued on to complete my undergrad at SUNY Oneonta and then did my masters degree at SUNY Cortland.

Where have you lived?

My father was in the Military so we moved around some. I had the opportunity to live in Germany for three years of my childhood in a German town – Affalterbach just outside Stuttgart. When we moved back to the United States my father was stationed at Fort Drum and I finished up my grade school years in Clayton, NY (Thousand Islands area). I then moved to Utica after college and have settled with my husband and two children in Deerfield, NY.

If you could do anything on a weekend, what would you do?

I would curl up on the couch and get lost in a great book and then take a nap!

What book and/or author are you currently reading?

Into the Water by Paula Hawkins

What is your favorite television show/movie/actor?

My favorite movie is Beach Blanket Bingo – it has been since I was a child.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I would go to Hawaii – just one of those places I have always wanted to visit and experience.

What one thing would you share that people might not know about you?

I use to be a competitive figure skater and did both local and national competitions.
