Meet staff member Deb Rachon

closeup of Ms. Rachon wearing a deep blue poloHI! My name is Deborah Rachon. I teach Grade 8 Mathematics and Algebra Honors at Jarvis Middle School.

How long have you been teaching or working in the district?

This is my 12th year.

What do you like best about what you do?

Creating instruction to help develop all of my students’ mathematics knowledge.

What event here at Central Valley CSD has made/makes a difference to you personally and in your career?

Personally I feel the Jarvis Marathon is a great event that allows me to share a lifetime of fitness with my students. As for my Career I feel the Math Department has a great network of colleges to help plan/instruct the students at Central Valley.

Where are you involved outside of school and what do you like best about it?

My involvement with a Lego Team for the past 3 years. Teaching mathematics outside of the classroom.

What former jobs have you held?

Mechanical Engineer with Bartell Machinery Systems, LLC in Rome, NY and Engineering Manager with Inland Paperboard and Packaging, in Utica, NY

Where were you educated?

Drafting degree from Alfred State
Mechanical degree from SUNYIT (SUNYPOLY now)
Teaching degree from Utica College

Where have you lived?

I have lived in this area my whole life. I attended Poland CSD.

If you could do anything on a weekend, what would you do?

Run a Half marathon or Hike an Adirondack High Peak.

What book and/or author are you currently reading?

Northville-Placid Trail (my next hiking plan)

If we were to listen to your iPod or sound system, what would be playing?

Any heart pumping workout song for running or soft piano tunes for relaxing.

What is your favorite television show/movie/actor?

NCIS / Despicable me

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

I have only seen the East coast of the United States, so I would be happy to just “Head West.”

What one thing would you share that people might not know about you?

I played the Trumpet and a little of piano as a child, and still enjoy them during the less busy summer months.
