Barringer Road Teacher Aide Pattie Day with third grader Abigail Salsman

Hi! My name is Pattie Day and I am a rotational teacher aide at Barringer Road Elementary School. I work primarily in second grade.

How long have you been teaching or working in the district?

Four years

What do you like best about what you do?

I get to be with most of the students in the building throughout the course of the day , not just a few classes, and you never know what the day will bring.

Where are you involved outside of school and what do you like best about it?

I am active in my church as a lector and Eucharistic minister and since our son plays varsity soccer, I am active in the boys’ soccer booster club as well. With the help and support of our administrators, I am working to establish a district wide “Sun Safety” program to educate all of the students how they can protect themselves from the sun and prevent skin cancer.

What former jobs have you held?

I have been a bank teller, an insurance CSR and an assistant in a doctor’s office.

Where were you educated?

I graduated from Ilion High School in 1986 and attended Utica College.

Where have you lived?

I have lived in Ilion my entire life.

If you could do anything on a weekend, what would you do?

I would relax and read a book, maybe take a ride and spend a day in the Adirondacks and of course, have a cookout with family and friends.

What book and/or author are you currently reading?

Right now I am reading, The Spiritual Child, but usually it is something by either Nicholas Sparks or Nora Roberts.

If we were to listen to your iPod or sound system, what would be playing?

K- Love 107.3

What is your favorite television show/movie/actor?

Fixer Upper and the Big Bang Theory.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?

I would love to one day travel to Ireland.

What one thing would you share that people might not know about you?

I won’t kayak with Mrs. Lennox because I am terrified of dark water!
