NYS Grades 3-8 Testing Mandates

All students in Grades 3-8 are required to participate in the New York State Testing Program (NYSTP), and must sit for annual assessments in accordance with New York State and No Child Left Behind regulations.  The following assessments are required by grade level:

Grade 3:  NYS Assessment in English Language Arts; NYS Assessment in Mathematics

  • Grade 4: NYS Assessment in English Language Arts; NYS Assessment in Mathematics, NYS Assessment in Science
  • Grade 5:  NYS Assessment in English Language Arts; NYS Assessment in Mathematics
  • Grade 6:  NYS Assessment in English Language Arts; NYS Assessment in Mathematics
  • Grade 7: NYS Assessment in English Language Arts; NYS Assessment in Mathematics
  • Grade 8: NYS Assessment in English Language Arts; NYS Assessment in Mathematics; NYS Assessment in Science

The NYS Education Department assigns windows during which schools must administer the exams.  As these assessments are a requirement, families are strongly encouraged to plan around assessment dates, and support their child’s attendance at school during the administration period.

Once Central Valley sets local administration dates, they are posted on the district calendar.
