The 2016 Mott Marathon “Jack’s Day” kicked off on Thursday, June 9 under blue skies and gusty winds. This year’s marathon raised money for the Race for a Cure in the name of Jack Day (Ilion ’11) who lost a valiant battle with melanoma in 2015.
Jarvis middle schoolers kicked off the event with their mile run.
After the mile, Jack’s extended family stepped onto the track where Jack’s mother Pattie Day offered an emotional tribute to Jack and the runners.
Race organizer Jim Mott set the stage for start. He praised the 48 seniors who accepted the challenge to run 26.2 miles. Then, off they were. Five minutes later, alumni and teams started.
