Central Valley School District Board of Education – Annual Budget Hearing

The Board of Education’s Annual Budget Hearing was called to order by President Daniel LaLonde, at 7:02 p.m., in the LGI room at Central Valley Academy. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all those present.

Proposed 2017-2018 Budget
Mr. Long presented a PowerPoint on the proposed 2017-2018 budget. The proposal of $44,975,000 represents a spending decrease of $119,500 or 0.26% from last year’s budget of $45,094,500.
The Board reviewed a budget and property tax history from 2012-2013 through present. The proposed budget is made up of three areas which include Program (69.72%), Capital (18.81%), and Administrative (11.47%). Revenues are made up of state aid, property taxes, appropriations from fund balance and other. Expenditures include general support, instruction, pupil transportation, debt service, employee benefits, and interfund transfers.

PUBLIC OPEN FORUM
Travis Costin commented on income after the capital project, miscellaneous income, and BOCES rental.
Paul Bryk commented on pupil transportation, potential trading of buses, general support, and rental protection.
Kelly Rowland commented on potential bus purchases and transportation for summer school students.
Logan Shedd commented on payment to Board members. Mr. Long explained that Board members serve on a volunteer basis only.
Voting – Mr. Long reported that voting will take place on Tuesday, May 16, 2017, from 12:00 noon – 8:00 p.m. in the Small Gym at Central Valley Academy. In addition to the proposed budget, voters will be asked to elect two members to three-year terms on the Board of Education.
On a motion made by Mr. Schell, seconded by Mr. Shedd, the Board adjourned their regular meeting at 7:25 p.m. Motion carried 7-0.
