American Legion Zone 4 Oratorical Chairman Phil Seybert presents Principal Renee Rudd with a certification of appreciation for supporting the Legion’s annual speech contest.

On Sept. 25, Phil Seybert, American Legion Zone 4 Oratorical Chairman, visited CVA to present Principal Renee Rudd with a certificate of appreciation for the school’s support of the Legion’s annual High School Oratorical Scholarship Program.

CVA hosted the Legion’s District 4 competition last February.

Each year, the American Legion holds this speech contest that challenges a student’s understanding of the U.S. Constitution and the ability to speak publicly, with both an 8-10 minute prepared speech and a 3-5 minute impromptu speech. Winners move on to compete at the state and national levels. The contest draws 2700 students from 26 counties in central New York, all vying for the $18,000 scholarship.
