CVA teacher Karen Anderson is the 2014 NYS AHPERD Central North Zone Health Education Teacher of the Year. The award honors individuals for excellence in teaching and overall performance in the disciplines of physical education at the elementary, middle, and secondary levels, adapted physical education, health education, and dance education. The zone covers school districts in eight Central New York counties spanning from Herkimer to Cayuga.
“Karen has taught physical education, health and anatomy in our elementary, middle and high schools since 1986. She coached multiple sports and currently heads the school’s St. Baldrick’s Day cancer fundraiser,” said Interim Superintendent Gary Tutty.
“She invests her all in her students and her teaching. She exemplifies the very best of what a teacher should be. As a district, we could not be prouder.”
Ms. Anderson was nominated by physical education teacher Jane Connors and will be honored at the association’s annual meeting on Thursday, Nov. 6 in Canastota.
