Information for 5th & 6th graders (sent in letters home)

Students report to their classroom teacher where their cohort will receive instruction during the school day. Students will receive their 9 period schedule in that advisory on the first day. Staff will ensure that each child finds their room smoothly. The first day of school is Monday, September 14th. Doors open at 7:00 a.m. First period begins at 7:40 a.m.

We are not able to give all of our students an in person orientation this year but there will be one virtually for all children and an in person orientation for students in Grades 5-8 who are fully virtual.  Hopefully we will be able help to acclimate everyone to the different procedures we have this year due to the unique circumstances that come with COVID-19. During the in person orientation for virtual students, they will meet their teachers, pick up their schedules and get a chromebook along with any other supplies they might need while learning at home. Parents are not to attend. Students learning in person are not to attend. We will do temperature checks for children entering the building for orientation.

In person orientations for virtual learner (see details at the bottom of this page)

  • Thursday, September 10th: Virtual 5th & 7th grade orientation - 9:00 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.
  • Friday, September 11th: Virtual 6th & 8th grade orientation - 9:00 a.m. - 11:15 a.m.

For students attending in person, we are checking the temperature of every child prior to their entry to the building. The exact procedure for this will be part of the virtual orientation.  For car riders specifically, please do not allow your child out of the car until we check their temperature. If they are running a fever over 100⁰ the student will not exit the vehicle and will need to be taken home.

When students report on the first day, they will be directed to their cohort room. Students will be able to eat both breakfast and lunch in this room. Students can bring their own packed lunch as well as a snack to be eaten at a designated afternoon time. Lunches will run slightly earlier due to the reduced time schedule for the day. Lockers will not be in use, so please do not have children bring anything extra with them. There is a space below their chair to store a bookbag. We are enclosing a copy of the school supply list. This information is also available on our website.

Thank you for your patience and trust during this difficult time. Your children’s education and safety is paramount in our planning. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or concerns. Our office number is 315-866-2620.

7th and 8th grade student(s) will be starting this year in a fully virtual model unless they are enrolled in a 15:1 or Life Skills classroom.
