Seal of biliteracy

Congratulations to those CVA foreign language students who earned the NYSED Seal of Biliteracy. And congratulations to the Foreign Language Department and the district for offering the Seal of Biliteracy for the third consecutive year and earning the "Silver – 2 to 4 Year" badge from the state.

This badge recognizes Central Valley for its commitment to the Seal of Biliteracy. Students earning the seal have demonstrated an intermediate to high level of competency in a second language. In addition to demanding coursework, students must complete the following in the second language:

  • A 10-minute presentation about a county or city,
  • A personal interview,
  • A research project,
  • Article reviews, and
  • An essay comparing and contrasting an aspect of culture in their country and the United States.

Those students receive honor cords to wear at graduation and a Seal of Biliteracy on their high school diplomas.

"The Seal of Biliteracy recognizes the hard work of our students and the Silver Badge recognizes our foreign language teachers' commitment to maintaining high standards, We are extremely proud of them all," said Superintendent of Schools Jeremy Rich.

"We look forward to our fifth year when we will receive the Gold Badge."
