Choosing a career path is a daunting decision, especially if you are a high school freshman. There is so much to know. What's out there? What training, education, or experience do I need to get to where I want to be?

On Monday, Mar. 15, all CVA ninth graders took a big step toward answering those questions. They joined other Herkimer County ninth graders for Herkimer County Career Day at Herkimer College. The event was organized by the Herkimer County Counselors Association and the Genesis Group.

More than 50 representatives from area businesses and organizations led roundtable discussions with the students, describing what they do in their careers and what training they needed to prepare them, and answering students' questions. Careers covered everything from trades and manufacturing to health, sciences, and finances.

Career Days offer students an introduction to a variety of options they might not have previously considered.  Central Valley includes career exploration as a part of every student's education. While it is not necessary to know specifically what field they will enter after they graduate, having a general idea helps them choose high school classes that best fit their futures.
