Five Central Valley Academy artists have been invited to display their works in the 33rd Annual Congressional Institute Art Competition at Herkimer College. Works by senior Joleen Smith, sophomore Elizabeth Gazcon-Chesbro and freshmen Dakota Mae Davis, Jordan Roberts and Nicole Pickett are on display at the college’s Cogar Art Gallery Mar. 10-28.

The artists, their parents and CVA art teachers Christina Korba and Winnie Dunn-Jones will  attend an awards ceremony on Mar. 28 where six students will receive a medal and will move on to the regional competition held at the Munson Williams Pratt School of Art. The date is to be announced. Winners continue on to compete at the state level. State winners are displayed for one year at the U.S. Capitol.

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.
