CVA music students place in the local B Sharp Music Competition

On Mar. 5, three Central Valley Academy Music students placed in the B sharp Music Competition held at Munson Williams in Utica.  The piano students had to prepare two classical works, while the vocal students had to prepare three contrasting classical selections of which one had to be sung in English and Italian.

Students are judged by college professors in the categories of piano, voice, winds, percussion, and strings.  Sophomore Caroline Gardner placed third in the piano division.  Senior Aaron Barnett received honorable mention in voice while senior Rachel Nunneker placed second in voice.

The B Sharp Music Club sponsors the Music Competition annually. Monetary awards are given to students who place as follows:

  • honorable mention – $150
  • third place – $300
  • second place – $450
  • first place – $600

Caroline Gardner and Rachel Nunneker will be performing at the Winners Recital on Sunday, Apr. 10, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the Munson Williams Auditorium.  The winners recital will also be recorded and presented on the WCNY radio station later in the year.
