CVA names Boys State and Girls State students

The Central Valley Academy and the Mohawk American Legion have named CVA’s representatives to the 2014 Girls State and Boys State programs.

Junior Elizabeth Belfast will attend Girls State at SUNY Brockport and juniors Nicholas Bandel and Daren Lincourt will attend Boys State at SUNY Morrisville. The students were selected based on their academic achievement, leadership, character and citizenship.

Both Boys State and Girls State are week-long educational workshops, teaching how government works while developing leadership skills and an appreciation for citizens’ rights. As participants in the program, students will run for office, learn public speaking, create and enforce laws and actively participate in all phases of creating and running a working government in this exciting and fun summer program.

Elizabeth is the daughter of Aaron and Wendy Belfast. Elizabeth is an accomplished musician and athlete, actively participating in orchestra, varsity girls soccer, varsity indoor track and varsity track and field.  She is also an active member of National Honor Society and Key Club.

Nicholas is the son of Neil and Rhonda Bandel. Nik is actively involved in athletics, participating on the varsity cross country, indoor track and track teams. He is also a member of the National Honor Society.

Daren is the son of David and Victoria Lincourt. Daren is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, Student Council, Outdoor Adventure Club and Ecology Club. He is played varsity football and wrestled for CVA.

The Mohawk American Legion Auxiliary will sponsor Elizabeth and the Mohawk American Legion and Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Homes will sponsor Nicholas and Daren.
