Five CVA seniors earn state academic scholarships

Five Central Valley Academy seniors have each been awarded a New York State Scholarship for Academic Excellence. CVA guidance counselor Michelle DelConte and principal Dick Keeler shared the news with honorees Shivam Patel, Kaylee Miller, Caroline Gardner, Lydia Engel, and Amy Castle on Monday, May 1.

The New York State Board of Regents awards range from $500 to $1,500 per year for up to five years of undergraduate study. The honor is based on the students’ performance on Regents exams in comprehensive English, global studies, United States history/government, mathematics B, and in two or more of the following four sciences: earth science, living environment/biology, chemistry, and physics.

The students’ post-graduate plans are:

  • Shivam Patel will attend Georgia Tech University
  • Kaylee Miller will attend Marist College
  • Caroline Gardner will attend Bowling Green State University
  • Lydia Engel will attend Syracuse University
  • Amy Castle will attend University of Connecticut
