Three Central Valley Academy students recently participated in an intense four-day workshop with Broadway artists and directors at Glimmerglass Festival. Johnna Bernard, Juliana Joyce and Joe Marmet auditioned for the Broadway Dreams program in April and were selected for the “Take it to the Limit” program at Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown.

The students worked in classes and performed along Broadway performers Nicholas Rodriguez (Tarzan, Sex and the City, Guys and Dolls), Craig D’Amico (Fiddler on the Roof and Annie Get Your Gun), Quentin Earl Darrington (Memphis and Ragtime), and Paris Nesbitt (Book of Morman). They were directed by TONY nominated director and choreographer Dan Knechtges (Xanadu, Spelling Bee and Lysistrata Jones) and Music Directed by Jason Wetzel. Local music teachers Neal Allen and Mark Bunce also assisted in playing rehearsals.

During the four days, students participated in rehearsals, voice, acting and dance classes and viewed Glimmerglass productions of Carousel and Madame Butterfly, as well as a Bel Canto Recital given by the Glimmerglass Festival Young Artists. The culmination was a performance on the Glimmerglass Festival stage Monday, August 18 which consisted of group numbers featuring our Central Valley Academy performing selections from the following musicals: Applause, South Pacific, Oklahoma and Sunday in the Park with George.
