Group photo of Team ACVA Team A made up of Anna Engel, Kevin Diedrich, Will Paddock, Scott Pierce, and Cody Messina grabbed first place in the May 4 Herkimer County Envirothon competition at HCCC! They will represent the county at the State Envirothon competition at Hobart William Smith May 25-26.

CVA Team B made up of Abbie Sweeney, Olivia Harwick, Mark Ptasznik, Kaitlyn McCarthy, and Harry Gibson placed fourth.

Envirothon is a competition that occurs at a county level across the United States. Winners from each county advance to a state competition, and winners from each state advance to a national competition.

Teams of five students rotate through stations answering questions about wildlife, forestry, aquatic ecosystems, soil science, and a current environmental issue. At the state level, this year’s environmental issue is invasive species. CVA Team A will need to perform an oral presentation about the invasive aquatic plant hydrilla before a panel of judges.
