Eight CVA Thunder complete peer mediation training

Peer mediators combine their student perspectives with special schools to help schoolmates work through difficult situations.

Eight CVA students recently completed the Catholic Charities Peace Treaty Peer Mediation Training program. Richard Brewer, Michael Cool, Colin Dawley, Katherine Fogerty, Isaiah Joyner, Taylor Listovitch, Anaya Sumanasuriya and Drew Temple now join CVA’s team of previously trained mediators.

Peer mediators receive communication and mediation skills training. They work with students of the same age-group to help resolve disputes between two people or small groups. The process is voluntary for both sides. Peer mediators do not “make decisions,” but rather work towards a win-win resolution for both sides. Pairs of mediators use structured mediation procedures to help disputants come to mutually satisfactory agreements.

Referrals to peer mediation can be made by students, teachers, or administrative staff. Referral forms are available in the guidance office.
