District working to resolve opening day transportation bugs

Despite the best of intentions, opening day at Central Valley School still suffered from a few transportation issues.

“We changed several bus runs and have added full-day prekindergarten students to our runs. We tried to anticipate all problems, but when you’re busing 1600 students to and from school, there are bound to a few problems,” said District Business Manager Ken Long.

Mr. Long said the district encountered runs that took longer than expected, drivers directed to the wrong sites and students who got off at the wrong stops. Several parents called schools concerned about their children’s whereabouts.

“We understand parents’ frustration when things don’t go as smoothly as expected. We want parents to understand that student safety is our first priority,” he said. “We are working hard to fix all of the glitches that popped up. We just ask that parents be patient with us while we work through each situation.”

He also asked that parents with concerns contact Transportation Director Chad Francisco at 866-2140. If unable to get through to Mr. Francisco, parents are welcome to call Mr. Long at 894-9934.
