Faculty battles police – all for a good cause

Group photo of Thunder and law enforcement teams. On Friday night, Feb. 26, Thunder teachers and staff took on members of local law enforcement in an intense, but friendly game of basketball. The event was a fundraiser for the CVA Ski and Snowboard Club.

The game remained close, ultimately going to overtime and won by the police.

The fun was not limited to the court. Other festivities included a 50/50 raffle, two knockout contests, a concession stand, a dance party featuring students doing the “Watch Me Whip”, and even the opportunity to duct tape 6’3” Barringer Road principal Jeremy Rich to the wall!

The Faculty roster included Joe Patrei, Brian Lasowski, Tim Lawrence, Mike Farber, Principal Dick Keeler, Luke Slatton, Dave Ryan, Joe Geniti, Dave Wolfanger, Aaron Postiglione, Karen Guidi, Christopher French, and Coach Dave Appleton.

The CVA Ski & Snowboard Club is a student organization dedicated to lifelong fitness, exercise, and the love of the outdoors in winter. On Thursday evenings throughout the winter, members of the club travel by school bus to Woods Valley Ski Area in Westernville, NY for five hours of skiing and snowboarding. Additionally, the Club holds an end-of-season trip to Gore Mountain to experience a day of ‘big mountain” skiing and boarding. The CVCSD Faculty versus Law Enforcement basketball game is the only fundraiser the club runs and proceeds from the event help defray the cost of transportation to and from the mountain each week.
