Fine Arts Progression defines requirements and expand opportunities

Central Valley students with a passion for visual arts, music, theater, and media arts now have a clear path to follow to graduation. On Thursday, Dec.14, the Central Valley board of education adopted a proposed Fine Arts Progression.

The Fine Arts Progression is rigorous, and meets all state learning standards and graduation requirements. It offers students a choice under New York’s “4 + 1” pathway to graduation. Central Valley is one of the first schools in the region to pursue a fine arts pathway to a Regents diploma.

The progression clearly defines which courses students must take to:

  • meet the basic arts requirements to graduate from high school, or
  • graduate with a Regents diploma in the Arts, or
  • graduate with a Regents diploma in the Arts with additional coursework to prepare students for a college Arts major.
