Members of Dr. Mays-Smith’s family were special guests for the “Books for Marsha’s Kids” assembly.

Pre-kindergarten teacher Kathy Moorehead coordinated the event and spoke fondly of the school’s former principal. She reminded everyone of Dr. Mays-Smith’s love for children and learning.

The school presented Dr. Mays-Smith’s husband and daughter with a student-made book filled with student signatures and memories.

Each child in grades 1-4 then received a copy of “Charlotte’s Web” by E.B. White. Inside each book was a bookplate with a photo of Dr. Mays-Smith and inscribed with, “She will be remembered for her love of children and her dedication to their education.”

Following the ceremony, the students enjoyed make-your-own sundaes. The books and ice cream were donated by the Fisher PTO.
