How can you encourage physical fitness and raise money for the American Heart Association? Sponsor a Dodgeball for Hearts Tournament! That is what students and staff at Central Valley Academy did to get a healthy start to the holiday break.
The event was coordinated by physical education teacher Jane Connors in conjunction with American Heart Association. Students were challenged to get a team together of 6-10 members and raise donations to participate. Students and staff also donated a dollar to watch the final championship game. Although the exact amount raised for the American Heart Association was not available at press time, it is estimated to be over $1,000!
On Dec. 20, everyone gathered in the gym ready to face each other in the competition. The student teams competed against each other in a single elimination tournament to see who will take on the faculty/staff team. As the battles began, all the teams were eventually defeated and it was a team of 11 students calling themselves “Toon Squad” who would be challengers.
Faculty/staff found it was no easy task to win the battle against these characters. They were defeated and The Toon Squad walked away as champions in this worthy event.
