The Ilion-Mohawk Board of Education will hold its first meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 28 in the Jarvis High School Auditorium, 28 Grove St. Mohawk. This will be the organizational meeting of the board, which will be elected on Wednesday, Mar. 27.
Herkimer-Fulton-Hamilton-Otsego BOCES District Superintendent Mark Vivacqua will open the meeting, swear in the new members, conduct an election for the board president, and swear in the new president. At that time, the president will preside over the meeting.
The primary purpose for the meeting will be to establish the tools needed to conduct business as a school district. This will include such things as appointing district officers, attorneys, auditors and other positions; selecting a school bank and official newspaper; establishing basic financial practices; joining school-related organizations and appointing representatives to each; and setting board of education policies.
In addition, it is expected the board will hear reports and discuss the progress of Transition Advisory Teams, hear preliminary information regarding the 2013-2014 Budget, establish the district’s 2013-14 School Calendar, consider the future selection of a superintendent of schools, and set future meeting dates.
