Jarvis store workers travel to WonderWorks

On Friday, June 3, the Jarvis School Store student workers received a big thank you for their hard work with a trip to WonderWorks at Destiny USA. School store advisor Jody Balash and parent chaperones Tiffany Carson, Ricicha Francisco, Jennifer Mower, and Lynn Shepherd escorted the students.

The students regularly give up their lunch and recess periods to work at the school store selling school supplies, novelty items, and Central Valley items and apparel.  In addition to working regularly scheduled shifts, these students attended monthly after school meetings where they prepared deposits, ordered merchandise, and created gift cards used by many Jarvis teachers as rewards or classroom incentives.  This student-run extracurricular activity gives students real-world work experience, including bookkeeping, pricing and stocking merchandise, sales, customer services, collaboration, counting back change, and much more.

WonderWorks is an amusement park for the mind with 40,000 square feet of “edu-tainment”. The attraction combines education and entertainment with more than 100 hands-on exhibits that challenge the mind and spark the imagination.
