Barringer Road Elementary has incorporated a morning walking program for third and fourth grade students. The group meets each morning in the gymnasium from 7:30-8 a.m. Students are encouraged to participate, however it is not mandatory.
Students have a great time moving in the morning as they listen to music helping them keep up a good pace while going the distance. Their blood gets flowing and their minds get working with this great before school activity. The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommends that children and adolescents ages 6-17 get at lease 60 minutes of physical activity a day to help them remain healthy, prevent disease and be physically fit.
“Many students have expressed how much they have enjoyed the opportunity to visit with friends as well as get some exercise,” said Principal Jeremy Rich, “We hope more students will encourage their friends to join the Barringer Road Walking Club.”
