Meet CV Superintendent Richard Hughes

How long did you teach before you became an administrator?

I taught chemistry, biology, and psychology for five years.

What do you like best about what you do?

Positively impacting the future of children.

What event here at Central Valley CSD has made/makes a difference to you personally and in your career?

Being new, so far it would be the warm welcome and chatting with students in person and via Twitter @CVThunderSuper.

Where are you involved outside of school and what do you like best about it?

Nothing yet but hope to join a couple of community groups and get back to martial arts training with my son.

What former jobs have you held?

Camp Counselor, Biology Graduate Assistant, Science Teacher, Coach, Elementary School Principal, Middle School Principal and Athletic Director.

Where were you educated?

  • Undergrad at Allegheny College in Meadville, PA
  • Graduate and Administration at SUNY Fredonia
  • Currently working on Doctorate at Northcentral University in Prescott Valley, AZ

Where have you lived?

From Perry, NY to Meadville, PA for College, Fredonia, Albany, Delhi, Norwich.

If you could do anything on a weekend, what would you do?

Go camping with the family.

What book and/or author are you currently reading?

Uplifting Leadership by Andy Hargreaves.

If we were to listen to your iPod or sound system, what would be playing?

Depends on my mood. Relaxing is more Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Billy Joel. Workout is Disturbed, Linkin Park. I also enjoy country or Pink Floyd.

What is your favorite television show/movie/actor?

I’m a comic book nerd so I love all things related (Flash, Arrow, Gotham). My new favorite movie surprisingly is Guardians of the Galaxy. Great story and tunes.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Scotland where my family surname is from.

What one thing would you share that people might not know about you?

Even though I played sports in high school and college, I also sang in additional choirs and performances. Just not at the same time.  😀
