Hi! My name is Christina Prokopienko. I teach Earth Science at Central Valley Academy and have been teaching for five years.
What do you like best about what you do?
My students! I love the great questions they ask, that often lead to tangential discussions and research. I enjoy learning alongside them, and even from them.
Where were you educated?
I earned my B.S from SUNY Albany, and my M.A.T from Union Graduate College.
Where have you lived?
I grew up in Michigan, right next to Detroit. If you were to ask me in person, I would hold up my hand and point to the spot (Michigan’s a mitten shaped state). I moved to Upstate New York for college, and haven’t looked back!
If you could do anything on a weekend, what would you do?
Depending on the weather and season; either outdoors, off on a road trip, or curled up with a good book.
What book and/or author are you currently reading?
I just finished reading Terminal Freeze by Lincoln Child.
If we were to listen to your iPod or sound system, what would be playing?
I listen to lots of different music genres, but at the moment, I’ve been playing BT, These Re-Imagined Machines.
What is your favorite television show/movie/actor?
MASH! We just bought the entire set and I’ve been re-watching all the episodes. It’s an amazing show. If you haven’t seen it, look it up!
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Iceland – it’s a geological wonder I would love to explore and experience.
What one thing would you share that people might not know about you?
First, I LOVE to travel and experience new cultures and ways of life. I’ve traveled across the U.S, and parts of Canada, the Middle East and through Europe, and hope to expand my travels to all the continents in the future.
