Meet staff member Karen Casler

Photo of CVA Guidance Secretary Karen CaslerHi! My name is Karen Casler. I am the Guidance Office Secretary at Central Valley Academy.

I have started my eighth year in the Guidance Department, the past seven years at Mohawk Central School. I welcome coming back to the high school environment.

What do you like best about what you do?

I enjoy helping the high school students whether it be filling out applications, printing transcripts or helping in any way with their upcoming college process.

What event here at Central Valley CSD has made/makes a difference to you personally and in your career?

The single most important event to me at Central Valley CSD has been the transfer back to a high school environment which I thoroughly enjoy.

Where have you lived?

Besides New York, I have lived in Florida, Alabama and Texas.

Where were you educated? 

I grew up in Clear Lake City, Texas and moved to Sauquoit, New York in high school. I graduated from Sauquoit High School and attended Mohawk Valley Community College for Secretarial Science.

If you could do anything on a weekend, what would you do?

I look forward to weekends spent kayaking and walking in the Adirondacks.

What book and/or author are you currently reading?

I am currently reading The Matchmaker by Elin Hilderbrand.

If we were to listen to your iPod or sound system, what would be playing?

Anything by Maroon 5.

What is your favorite television show/movie/actor?

My favorite television show is Grey’s Anatomy.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

If I could travel anywhere in the world – I would re-visit Aruba. It is just amazingly beautiful there.
