Meet staff member Martin Burrello

Photo of Jarvis teacher Martin BurrelloHi! My name is Martin Burrello. I teach seventh grade social studies at Jarvis Middle School and have been teaching over 31 years.

What do you like best about what you do?

Talking and interacting with the students about American History is what I like best. The USA is a GREAT nation and people need to know that.

Where are you involved outside of school and what do you like best about it?

Outside of school a chief involvement is with my church, the Oak Ridge Free Methodist Church.

What former jobs have you held?

As a gas station attendant I once collected counterfeit bills. Working retail in a camera store I wrapped a Christmas present for Billy Joel. I believe it was for Christie Brinkley. In construction I worked on restoring the historic Woolworth Mansion on Long Island.

Where were you educated?

Glen Cove High School. Colleges attended are: Oral Roberts University, BA in History and SUNY Oneonta, MS in Education.

Where have you lived?

I have lived in Glen Cove, NY, Tulsa OK, Oneonta, NY, Ilion, NY and Herkimer, NY

If you could do anything on a weekend, what would you do?

Play a little baseball and read in the evening by the fireplace.

What book and/or author are you currently reading?

Ramage and the Guillotine  by Dudley Pope.

What is your favorite television show/movie/actor?

TV – PBS Mystery
Actor – Humphrey Bogart
Movie – Drama – Rebel Without a Cause, Western – High Noon, Fantasy – King Kong (1933), Romance – Casablanca

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

Italy to get in touch with my roots.

What one thing would you share that people might not know about you?

I once played in center-field for the New York Yankees. Our high school band played the national anthem.
