Meet staff member Robert Fehrman

Photo of Jarvis math teacher Robert FehrmanHi! My name is Robert Fehrman. I teach seventh grade mathematics at Jarvis Middle School.

This is my first full time teaching position but I have been tutoring privately for five years in courses ranging from seventh grade math through college calculus.

What do you like best about what you do?

My favorite part about teaching is the relationships I develop with my students. I love getting to know who they are and who they want to be while assisting them in developing skills they can use for a lifetime.

Where are you involved outside of school and what do you like best about it?

Currently, I’m involved in a volleyball league. Over the past several years, my teammates have become my best friends and I absolutely love being able to spend time with them while also getting in some good exercise.

What former jobs have you held?

Prior to obtaining a full time teaching position, I was a private math tutor. While working with my students I provided strategies to assist in their course work and prepared students for important exams such as state Regents exams as well as the SAT.

Where were you educated?

I received my Bachelor’s degree from Utica College and my Master’s degree from Jones International University.

Where have you lived?

I’ve spent my entire life living in various towns and cities around the Central New York region.

If you could do anything on a weekend, what would you do?

During warmer months I enjoy camping, hiking, and golfing on the weekends. During snowy weekends you can usually find me on a ski slope.

What book and/or author are you currently reading?

Currently I am reading the Hunger Games. You can see the movie but it’s rarely ever quite as good as the book.

If we were to listen to your iPod or sound system, what would be playing?

My iPod is full of a wide variety of music. I listen to everything from rock to rap to classical. You really never know what you’re going to come up with in there.

What is your favorite television show/movie/actor?

Right now the show I really can’t get enough of is The Lottery.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?

If I could visit anywhere in the world, I would travel around the Mediterranean countries. I think the culture and history of places like Italy and Greece are fascinating.

What one thing would you share that people might not know about you?

I come from a large family. I am the oldest of seven brothers and sisters.
