In its continuing efforts to combat the spread of COVID-19, New York State recently provided public school districts with COVID-19 testing kits for distribution to families. Central Valley will distribute these free testing kits to district families on Thursday, Feb. 17. The goal is to minimize the risk of COVID following winter break.

Things you should know:

  • Each parent/guardian will receive one box of test kits for each student.
  • Each box contains two test kits with instructions.
  • Use one test in the kit Sunday, Feb. 27 before students return to school after winter break.
  • Use the second test on Wednesday, Mar. 2.

How to get your test kits on Thursday, Feb. 17:

  • Fisher and Barringer Road
    • Car riders can pick up kits at arrival (we’ll put them right in your car) or
    • Parents/guardians can stop in at the office 3:30-5 p.m. or
    • Call the school office at 315-866-4851 (Fisher) or at 315-894-8420 (Barringer Road) to arrange a different pick-up time.
  • Jarvis Middle School
    • Car riders can pick up kits at arrival (we’ll put them right in your car) or
    • Parents/guardians can stop in at the front desk 2-4 p.m. or
    • Call the school office at 315-866-2620 to arrange a different pick-up time.
  • CVA
    • Students or parents/guardians can pick up kits at the office 2-4 p.m. or
    • Call the office at 315-895-7471 to arrange a different pick-up time.

If your child tests positive:

  • Keep your child home and away from others to avoid the spread of COVID.
  • Notify the school.
  • Notify Herkimer County Public Health.
  • Students can return to school after 5 days if symptom-free, but will need to wear a tight-fitting mask on days 6-10.

New York Gov. Hochul is scheduled to address the state in early March with information regarding the future of masks in school.
