On Wednesday, May 11, Central Valley CSD and Connected Community Schools (CCS) celebrated their partnership with a ribbon cutting in the CVA LGI.
CVA's NNDCC Color Guard presented the colors and Jarvis Middle School students led the Pledge of Allegiance. CVA's select choir sang the alma mater. A combined chorus from Fisher and Barringer Road elementary schools brought down the house as they sang "God Bless the USA" while signing the lyrics in American Sign Language.
Central Valley CSD Superintendent and event emcee Jeremy Rich said changes in society and our local economy have created new challenges for families and that schools often lack the resources to help. Connected Community Schools helps close that gap by identifying those challenges and matches the student or family with the help they need.
Melissa Roys, Executive Director for Connected Community Schools, explained that her group was their to help with everything from food and clothing to dental and medical needs. Each school has a Hub staffed with a CCS liaison that provides students and families with n-cost essentials such as food items, hygiene needs and school supplies.
The celebration wrapped up with doughnuts, muffins, and pastries for everyone.
