BOE supports move to virtual

At a virtual Special Meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 8, the Central Valley CSD Board of Education agreed to move all in-district students to virtual learning beginning Monday, Dec. 14. The meeting was open to the public with links posted to the district website.

Superintendent Jeremy Rich requested the meeting following an announcement from the Herkimer County Health Department that local COVID cases were rising faster than the department's resources could respond. In his comments to the board, Mr. Rich said COVID was coming into the schools, leaving the district without staff to cover classes. He recommended the district move to virtual to slow the spread and ensure teachers remained healthy and able to teach.

The board discussed the COVID challenges, the merits of moving to virtual on Wednesday, Dec. 10 versus Monday, Dec. 14, and the dilemma this would create for working families. After lengthy discussion, the board agreed that moving to virtual was inevitable, but waiting until Dec. 14 would give families more time to arrange for child care.
