Jarvis Middle School eighth-grade students didn’t let a pandemic stop their education. Together with their English teachers, they traveled to the Jarvis Library to research the Holocaust. They began by learning to use the library's digital databases. They then explored a Holocaust topic of interest. They also learned to use NoodleTools, an online app that helps student organize the information they collect. Instead of writing a traditional report, the students created infographics to present their findings. An infographic is a visual image such as a chart or diagram used to represent information or data. A good infographic presents information in a concise and memorable way.
Although familiar to most adults, the Holocaust is distant history for most teens. The prisoners were freed almost 76 years ago at the end of World War II, three generations before these students were born. This project allowed students to explore a small part of the past, to make it their own, and to share what they learned in a creative way with their classmates.
