Reality Check thanks CVA students for fight against tobacco

Photo of the Reality Check studentsOn Thursday, Nov. 12, Reality Check of Herkimer, Madison, and Oneida Counties partnered with Karen Guidi and her Central Valley Academy Historical Films class to present a free showing of Disney’s ‘Inside Out’ to district families. The purpose of this free movie was to alert the community smoking messages hidden in movies meant for kids. The students explained that films rated G, PG, and PG-13 often show characters smoking. They asked the families in attendance to sign a letter to Hollywood asking the film studios to keep smoking out of movies meant for kids. Hollywood tends to normalize and glamorize tobacco use in films, especially kid rated films, but Reality Check and the Historical Films Class are working to protect children from the harmful influence of tobacco use on screen.
