No shot, no school begins Sept. 21

Beginning, Thursday, Sept. 21, Jarvis Middle school students are at risk of being excluded from school for not having required immunizations. The Jarvis and CVA health offices have notified the families of students still needing the immunizations.

Under New York State law:

  • Beginning Sept. 1, 2016 all students entering grades 7 and 12 must be inoculated against meningococcal disease. In addition, any senior who received an initial dose before turning 16 years old must receive a booster.
  • Beginning March 2007, students entering sixth grade must receive the Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis) immunization.

For more information, please contact the CVA Health Office at 894-5000 x 55911 or the Jarvis Health Office at 894-5000 x 85911.

“This is a serious problem for students. New York law states students must have these immunizations to be able to attend school,” said Jarvis school nurse Linda Kudrewicz.

Families can have their children vaccinated at a Herkimer County Public Health immunization clinic or get it from their family health care professional.

Not sure when to immunize your child? The New York State Department of Heath offers a one-page immunization schedule.
