Per state, colleges must charge for College Now credits

Beginning with the fall 2016 semester, Central Valley students taking College Now courses will pay $53 per credit or $159 per three-credit course.

For the past two years, College Now courses through Herkimer County Community College were free to students, but a review of New York State Education Law determined community colleges must charge for concurrent enrollment courses.

The fee is one-third the in-state, part-time tuition rate, saving students more than $300 per course compared to the full rate. In addition, earning college credit while in high school can reduce college course loads and even result in earlier college graduation.

A further benefit is that College Now courses introduce high school students to college expectations, increasing students’ college readiness.
