CVA Sophomore Camryn Stone’s 600-meter leg changed the race’s momentum and helped the Section 3 girls distance medley relay team capture the New York State title at the 2018 NYSPHSAA Indoor Track and Field Championships Mar. 3 in Staten Island.
After Gianna Capoccia (RFA) opening 1,000-meter leg, the section 3 team found itself in fourth place, down 3.515 seconds. That gap widened to 3.919 seconds after Cady Barns’ (Fayetteville-Manlius) 200-meter. Stone’s 1:37.820 moved the team into third, just 2.060 seconds off the lead. With the gap closing, Eva Borton (Clinton) took the baton and dominated the 1,500 meter, crossing the tape with a team time of 10:16.908, more than three seconds ahead of the next finisher.
Congratulations Camryn and the Section 3 girls distance medley team.
