On Friday, Mar. 13, former World Bicycle Stunt Champion Chris Poulos wowed Barringer Road students with amazing stunts and funny stories from his childhood and years as a stunt bike rider.
More than entertaining, Chris shared a character education message that focused on:
- Bullying & Cyberbullying
- Making & Keeping Friends
- Treating Others With Respect
- Overall Kindness
His visit tied into the school’s Parents as Reading Partners (PARP) theme, “Discover New Trails.” Learn more about Chris’ visit, PARP and character education at Barringer Road in the video below.
PARP helps parents share in their childrens education
More than ever, school success is tied to reading. Children who read at or above grade level find school easier and more fun.
PARP is a two-week program that asks parents to read with their children for 15 minutes each night. Parents record each night they read and teachers total the participants. A total of 370 families took part school-wide.
PARP, like reading, is meant to be fun. Students enjoyed dress-up days (dress like a favorite book character), played PARP BINGO and the assembly went extremely well with great participation too. Everyone received popsicles for doing such a great job. Pre-K and third grade had the highest participation. A special congratulations goes to Linsey Connarton and her class—every student completed the 15-minutes reading challenge.
