At its regular meeting on Wednesday, July 9, the New York State Board of Regents named Central Valley School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Cosimo Tangorra the state education department’s Deputy Commissioner for the Office of P-12 Education. Dr. Tangorra replaces Ken Slentz who stepped down in May to become superintendent at Skaneateles Central School District.
The Central Valley Board of Education accepted Dr. Tangorra’s resignation at a special meeting on July 9. The board appointed Herkimer County BOCES District Superintendent Mark Vivacqua as acting superintendent. He will guide the district through the process of finding an interim superintendent who will serve while the district seeks a permanent replacement.
Dr. Tangorra served as the superintendent at Oppenheim-Ephratah and Trumansburg central schools before taking the head position at Ilion Central School in 2008. He was named Central Valley’s superintendent following the Ilion-Mohawk school merger in 2012.
