The public vote over whether Central Valley School District will sell the Remington school building to Herkimer BOCES has been postponed while surveyors and attorneys define the property—excluding the athletic field.
On Thursday, Nov. 3, both the Central Valley and Herkimer BOCES boards of education approved delaying the vote until clear property lines and deeds can be drawn up.
The decision was in response to worries in the Central Valley community that selling the Remington building and the adjoining sports field would negatively impact Central Valley athletic programs. An earlier assurance by Herkimer BOCES that Central Valley would retain first refusal to use the field during off-school hours did little to lessen that concern.
The board cannot set a vote date until Central Valley can provide a deed that specifically describes the property to be purchased. Officials said they expect the vote to take place within the next three months.
