What happens when we run out of emergency days?

Posted Date: 02/04/26 (06:00 PM)

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we continue through the school year, I would like to share important information regarding our plan for instructional days should we exceed the number of emergency closure days built into our school calendar.

The district calendar includes five emergency closure days. At this time, four of those days have been used, leaving one remaining. If circumstances require us to close school beyond these five days, the district will transition to remote instruction in accordance with our approved Remote Instruction Plan.

Remote instruction on these days will be asynchronous, meaning students will complete assigned work independently within a timeframe similar to a typical homework assignment. There will be no live, real-time instruction required. Students' attendance on that day will be based on their completion of the assigned work. If they do not complete the assigned work, it will count as an absence for that day and the missing work could impact course grades.

Below is an overview of how remote instruction would be implemented:

  • Grades PreK–8 (including Special Education classes):
Students will receive learning packets to complete and return which will not only give each student attendance credit, but will also support future grades. Special area teachers will provide activities that will be included as part of these packets.

  • Grades 9–12 (including Special Education classes):
Assignments will be posted in Google Classroom. Students are already familiar with accessing their coursework through this platform and will use their Chromebooks to complete their assignments.

We will communicate clearly with families if and when a transition to remote instruction becomes necessary. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we work together to ensure continuity of learning for our students.

Sincerely,

Jeremy M. Rich
