Mackenzie Adamek's first grade class had two surprise visitors on Monday, Mar. 23. Dylan W's mom and little sister stopped in to help us celebrate World Down Syndrome Day. Mom read us a book and then talked to us about Down Syndrome. Afterward, we colored socks that we displayed in the hallway outside our room.

People wear brightly colored, mismatched socks for World Down Syndrome Day (March 21) because chromosomes, when viewed under a microscope, look similar to paired socks. The initiative, often called "Rock Your Socks," symbolizes the extra 21st chromosome that causes Down Syndrome, promoting awareness, acceptance, and conversation.
