Early in June, CVA held its first student Pickleball tournament. An amazing 31 teams signed up, with the three top teams earning medals and bragging rights.

Pickleball is a fast-paced paddle sport that combines elements of tennis, badminton, and ping-pong. It is played on a court roughly the size of a badminton court (20' x 44') with a slightly lowered net. Players use solid paddles to hit a perforated plastic ball (similar to a Wiffle ball) back and forth.

CVA boys tennis coach Chase Steenburg organized the event to provide some fun and to promote the game.

"Over the next few years, pickleball is probably going to become a high school sport, so this was a great chance to show our district as one of the first in our area to start taking it more seriously," said Steenburg.
