In mid-November, the CVA Math Club sent two teams of four students to Mohawk Valley Community College's High School Math Competition. A total of 37 students making up nine teams from area schools took part.  CVA senior Seth Boyer took top honors, winning the individual competition. He came away with a swag bag, and more important, a Presidential Scholarship for for free tuition at MVCC.

"We are proud of Seth's accomplishment and for his scholarship," said Math Club advisor Ron Kuty.

"Although the CVA teams did not finish in the top two, it was exciting to see their passion for math and CVA."

The competition challenged students to use creativity and math to solve problems in a limited time. Questions were not straight-forward and forced competitors to think "outside the box." Boyer later said that even as the winner, there were many problems he could not answer.
