Realistic plaster donuts and dunkin donuts box in a display case

Jarvis Middle School students in Amy Roepnack's art classes have found a place where they can be creative, be challenged, and have fun.

Mrs. Roepnack encourages her students to explore their artistic side in a wide variety of two- and three-dimensional media. One recent project asked students to create their versions of donuts with oil pastel drawings and then out of plaster. Students rolled and twisted, formed and painted their projects into tasty-looking, but inedible dessert sculptures. For their efforts, classes received a donut reward—real Dunkin' Donuts.

Not every student is a Rembrandt or Michelangelo, but students in the class have fun while they learn basic art skills.  Those who would like more time in the art studio can join after school Art Club. Many will go on to take art electives at the high school.
