Jarvis Middle School recognized more than 40 students at its nominated for the second "Character Breakfast" Award Ceremony.

At the end of each quarter, teachers at Jarvis Middle School each nominate one student who display excellent character traits such as being respectful, responsible, and self-disciplined. The students must also strive to build healthy peer relationships and strive for academic excellence.

The school acknowledges those students by inviting the nominees and their parents to an award ceremony where administration highlights student success and shares teachers' comments with parents.  Following the ceremony, they are invited to join the administrators in the cafeteria for a breakfast of breakfast sandwiches, yogurt parfaits, danishes, coffee, and juice.

"This program does more than just honor those students who exhibit great character. It gives Mrs. Wares and me a great opportunity to meet many of our parents and guardians," said principal Luke Manolescu.

"The more comfortable those adults feel with our school and staff, the more likely they will join us in the work of educating their children. We can talk more freely, partner together to find answers to difficult situations, and seek the best path for our students."

"We want to thank the many groups and individuals who helped make this possible," said Mr. Manolescu.

"The list is long—the Central Valley CSD Foundation helps underwrite the cost of the breakfast; our dedicated teachers consistently challenge our students to be their best; and of course, our Food Service Director Dominick Mauro and the Jarvis cafeteria staff and head cook Lori Salvagni provide such great food."
